Our Commitment to Sustainability

At Armstrong Flooring, we are dedicated to reducing our environmental footprint through innovation, efficiency, and responsible manufacturing practices. By embracing renewable energy, rethinking waste, and adopting circular solutions, we are creating a more sustainable future for both our industry and our communities.

Harnessing Renewable Energy

Our investment in a 300kW solar panel system is helping us shift toward cleaner energy. In 2024, solar power accounted for 8.2% of our total electricity use, generating 412.14 MW – the equivalent of 4kW per square metre of flooring manufactured. At the same time, we achieved a 39% reduction in gas consumption by upgrading our boilers and improving process heating systems. These changes have delivered major gains in energy efficiency, lowering both operational costs and carbon emissions.

Repurposing Waste at Scale

In 2024, we successfully repurposed 326,000 tonnes of waste, keeping valuable material out of landfill and dramatically reducing emissions. This achievement equates to:

  • 81,500 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent avoided (based on landfill impact)

  • The same as taking 17,500 cars off the road for a year

  • Preventing waste equal to what 650,000 people produce annually

By turning potential waste into new opportunities, we’re driving a circular economy while protecting the environment.

Innovation Through Reusability

We’ve also introduced a new reusable carrier system, preventing over 1.3 million m² of material from going to waste every year. Each carrier can be reused 8–9 times, reducing resource use, energy demand, and labour requirements. This innovation demonstrates how circular design can deliver both environmental and operational benefits.
