Flooring designed to support healing, movement and connection

The redevelopment of Peninsula University Hospital transformed a long-standing healthcare campus into a contemporary, vertically integrated facility designed to better serve Melbourne’s growing south-east. Delivered as part of a $1.1 billion expansion, the project brings together advanced clinical services within a 12-storey building, improving patient flow, staff collaboration and overall care delivery. 

Grounded in a people-centric and biophilic design approach, the hospital prioritises natural light, connection to landscape and a calm, intuitive experience for patients, staff and visitors. Courtyards, wintergardens and views to the bay are integrated throughout, reinforcing the principle of “healing Country, healing people.”

A coordinated flooring and wall finish palette was selected to support both performance and design cohesion across the facility.

Accolade Plus in Spice White, Mossman, Cappuccino, Ironbark and Sand Grey provides a durable, low maintenance foundation across high-traffic areas, while maintaining a warm, grounded aesthetic aligned to the surrounding coastal landscape.

Targeted slip-resistant solutions were applied where needed, with Accolade Foothold (Cappuccino, Spice White) and Accolade Safe (Cappuccino) supporting safety in more demanding clinical and wet areas.

To enhance the biophilic design intent, Natralis in Tea Tree, Winton and Ningaloo introduces nature-inspired tones and textures, contributing to a calmer, more restorative environment.

In critical zones, Safeguard R11 (Dune, Slate) delivers high-performance slip resistance, while Wallflex in Cool White completes the scheme with a hygienic, durable wall finish.

The result is a cohesive, high-performing interior environment that supports efficient clinical operations while enhancing patient wellbeing - reflecting the hospital’s broader vision of combining advanced healthcare with a strong sense of place.
